Toll House Cookie Recall

The County of San Diego, Department of Environmental Health has been advised by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) of a voluntary recall of Nestlé Toll House cookie dough products. Nestlé is taking this action as a precaution after being notified that the Food and Drug Administration, together with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), are conducting an investigation into reported E. coli 0157:H7 illnesses that may be related to consumption of raw cookie dough. While the E. coli strain implicated in this investigation has not been detected in the recalled products, a number of consumers reporting illness reported consuming raw Nestlé Toll house refrigerated cookie dough.

Below is the FDA website that lists the recalled products. It is strongly advised that raw cookie dough should not be eaten. Consumers with the recalled products may return the products to their local retailer or discard them to a secure trash container.

Sabre Springs Community Invites Public Participation
Sabre Springs Planning Group to consider allocating maintenance assessment district funds for water-wise demonstration project

On Monday, June 22, at 6:30 p.m. at the Carmel Mountain Ranch/Sabre Springs Recreation Center, the Sabre Springs Planning Group (SSPG) will be hosting a workshop and is inviting residents, renters, property owners and business owners in Sabre Springs to participate and help the group decide what to do with excess funds in its maintenance assessment district reserves.

The SSPG makes decisions on its maintenance assessment district as the Sabre Springs Maintenance Assessment District (SSMAD) Advisory Board. “One option we are considering is to allocate excess funds for a water-wise median demonstration project,” said Craig Balben, chair of the SSPG. “The city has declared a Level 2 Drought Alert and the demonstration project would remove old landscaping and an old irrigation system in one of the street medians in Sabre Springs and replace them with new water-wise landscaping and a new irrigation system. The demonstration project would help reduce landscape maintenance costs and energy use and also be a showcase to the Sabre Springs community that landscaping can be beautiful and low-water-use.”

The city has interpreted state law that dictates special districts like the SSMAD not carry more than 50% of its annual operating budget in reserves. The SSMAD’s Fiscal 2009 operating expenses are estimated to be a little more than $184,000. At the conclusion of Fiscal Year 2009, The SSMAD fund balance is estimated to be $166,000. The SSMAD is aiming to make a decision on what to do with its excess reserves of approximately $74,000 at its July 15 board meeting.

Water use and landscape maintenance are generally the largest budget line items in a maintenance assessment district’s budget. For SSMAD, those two items make up approximately 50% of its budget. The demonstration project’s goals would be to reduce expenditures in both of those categories.

Other options on what to do with the excess reserves include allocating the funds for a different project, reducing assessments for a one-year period, or a combination thereof.

“Obviously, we have some ideas about how best to use the excess funds, but this is democracy in its most fundamental sense,” says Balben. “This is an opportunity for the community to be involved in a profoundly grassroots way and help shape the direction of the SSMAD for years to come.”

Each property owner in Sabre Springs is assessed a different amount, depending on the property type, for the maintenance assessment district. In Fiscal Year 2009 for example, single-family homeowners were charged $22.20 per year, condo owners were charged $15.54 per year, while businesses were charged based on the size of their parcel. These rates are among the lowest in the city’s 57 assessment/improvement districts.

Description of Man

I got a lot of responses wanting to know the description of the car and person. This is from your neighbor. Also, the incident happened in the Morningside area.

"I’d say it’s probably a 2006 or 2007, definitely newer model, Gold Honda Civic 4-door. The man was an older Caucasian, late 40’s, early 50’s. Tall with brownish, grayish hair and he was wearing glasses."
